Educ: first with mother; piano with Ferabo and Baermann; harmony Junius W. Hill, Boston. Self-taught in counterpoint, composition, and orchestration. Debut as pianist, Boston 1883; made many appearances as soloist with orchestras. To Europe 1910 concertizing and introducing own works in Hamburg, Leipzig and Berlin. Works: Mass in E-flat; Gaelic Symphony; Piano Concerto in C-sharp Minor; comp. Festival Jubilate for dedication Women's Bldg. Chicago World's Fair, 1893; Song of Welcome, Omaha Exposition 1898; Panama Hymn, Panama Pacific Exposition, San Francisco 1915. Chamber Music: Piano Quintet; String Quartet; Suite for two pianos; Variations on Balkan Themes for piano (also two-piano version). Choral: "Let This Mind Be in You"; "Benedictus es Domine"; "Lord of the Worlds Is Above"; "Benedicite Omnia Opera"; "Canticle of the Sun"; "Christ in the Universe"; "Hearken unto Me."
